How Gender based violance affects childern

Children who are not physically harmed also suffer from a variety of negative consequences. When a youngster observes family violence, they come to realize that their home is not safe and secure, and they are compelled to start worrying about their own future as well as the future of their loved ones. Compared to children who have grown up without seeing violence in their homes, children who witness family violence are twice as likely to experience psychiatric problems such post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety. Insomnia, phobias, anger, low self-esteem, and reduced problem-solving abilities are just a few examples of the long-term cognitive, behavioral, and emotional changes that can happen.

Children who have witnessed violence occasionally vent their rage on their mistreated mothers. A woman may find it difficult to be emotionally available to her kid if she has personally experienced trauma, despite her best efforts. Contrary to popular belief, children who have seen abuse frequently use identification with the abuser as a form of defense. Children may also become more anxious about being apart from their parents, especially if their father has been imprisoned. When children learn that using violence to solve problems is acceptable, the cycle of violence can sometimes persist. These coping techniques support the youngster through their immediate suffering but may be long-term detrimental.

What can be done to help children whose families have experienced violence have happier lives? Specialist child-parent psychotherapy (CPP) can help to lessen the long-term damage generated by witnessing familial violence. CPP assists in resolving disputes between parents and children and supports the mother in promoting the child's normal growth. According to research, CPP greatly improves outcomes for kids, especially by easing PTSD and depression symptoms. Social skills and a network of encouraging people are further safeguards for kids.
