Men are also victims of gender based violance

One of the war's most occult crimes may be male rape. This might be the case given that both the offender and the victim engage in a "conspiracy of silence," which causes it to be denied or kept a secret. Yet, those who have been the victims of these crimes run the risk of losing the support of their friends and family when the stories are made public. Male sexual assault survivors frequently experience rejection and marginalization within their own groups. When a male experiences this kind of assault, patriarchal societies may label him as a "woman" and assign him traditional gender roles; men are not supposed to be weak.

MHHRI acknowledges that women are more frequent targets of this awful crime. We also want to share data showing that, during times of war and strife, sexual assaults against men are on the rise. As a result, it needs to be addressed as a major violation of human rights with grave implications for mental health.
